A goalie celebration!

I vowed to knock off the hockey posts for a few days, I admit. But anyone who watched the Sharks/Hurricanes game yesterday will forgive me:

Congratulations to the San Jose Sharks’ rookie goaltender Troy Grosenick (an emergency call-up from their AHL affiliate in Worcester, MA, no less!), who set the NHL record for the most saves in an NHL debut on Sunday in Raleigh, NC. (His 45 saves beat the previous 41-save record set by Andre Gill in 1967, and are the most ever made by a Sharks goalie in a shutout.) Grosenick is the first Sharks goaltender to post a winning shutout in his NHL debut, with a 2-0 result against the Carolina Hurricanes.  (Evgeni Nabokov did post a shutout in his 2000 debut, but it gave the Sharks a 0-0 tie.)

And hey, even if you’re not into hockey, you have to love this:
