I was very sad to hear of New York Times columnist David Carr’s sudden death last night at the age of 58. Carr was well-known as one of the first and best advocates for new media in his Media Equation column. Ironically, I admire Carr most for his eloquent, passionate defense of print journalism, as shown in the fascinating 2011 documentary Page One: Inside The New York Times. (If you have even a slight interest in newspapers, it’s a must-see film.) He also wrote the 2008 memoir The Night of the Gun, which I plan to read in his honor. Carr’s tenacity always will inspire me as a writer, and I know that his work will endure.
