Song In My Head #17: “Tally Ho!” by The Clean

Straight outta Dunedin! (New Zealand, that is.) This 1981 single gave Flying Nun Records its first hit, thanks to the sibling revelry of Hamish and David Kilgour. (It’s appeared on several reissues and compilations since then, most recently Merge Records’ 2014 re-release of Anthology.) This track was recorded for the grand total of $60, but sounds like a million-dollar production. Perhaps The Clean’s budgeting know-how explains their ability to record and tour internationally some 37 years since their inception. Anyway, I live in hope that some organist will play “Tally Ho!”‘s riff at a hockey game one day, and that I will be in attendance when that happens.
