Song In My Head #69: “Jingle, Jangle” by the Rockfield Chorale

This is not a cover of the classic Archies number (a post for another time!), but instead a rather mysterious Christmas single. The “Rockfield” refers to the long-running Rockfield Studios in Wales, which has recorded everyone from Del Shannon to the Pixies. Rumor has it that the “chorale” is comprised of studio founders (and former Thunderbolts) Kingsley and Charles Ward, accompanied by Dave Edmunds on guitar. Bomp! Records released it on a 45 in 1982, and featured it on 1995’s Destination Bomp! compilation. (That, of course, is where I fell in love with the song’s chiming bells, Spectoresque flourishes, and gently sardonic lyrical bent.)
